Blue Ocean Bob (B.O.B.)

Meet Bob

A boy, age 11, who discovers his purpose to become a marine biologist.  Bob begins his journey generally content, but looking for more from life.  He has always loved the ocean and sea life, but he never realized that he could make protecting them his life’s work.  He lives with his mother, the Mayor of the Island of Roses, and his father, a math teacher and soccer coach at The Island School.   His friend Xena the hummingbird has been with him as long as he can remember.  Bob’s character is inspired by anyone searching for his or her purpose and a better life.

Xena

Meet Xena

A pink and purple female hummingbird who is Bob’s constant companion.  She is always doubting, risk averse, and a little worried.  She represents the X-factor: our paradigms, conditioning and what holds us back from trying something new or reaching for more.  Nevertheless, she is Bob’s best friend and he always appreciates, but usually overcomes, her doubts and fears.

Doc

Meet Doc

A wise elderly turtle who leads Bob through important concepts and principles on his journey (inspired by Bob Proctor and Napoleon Hill).  Doc became wise by studying the great sea creatures of his and prior generations.  Doc also mentored many of the other helpful sea creatures that Bob and Xena encounter on their adventures.  Blue Ocean Bob and Doc are the central characters – seeker and sage.

Al

Meet Al

A helpful, friendly bottlenose dolphin who is very capable and outgoing.  He is a leader among the ocean mammals and a shining example to other sea life.  He is also one of Doc’s finest students.

Earl

Meet Earl

An accomplished giant clam who can grow enormous pearls and who studied with Doc for many years.  He is a mentor to Bob and others on the shore (inspired by Earl Nightingale).

Wallace

Meet Wallace

A jolly, experienced walrus who shows Bob that you “don’t do certain things, you do things in a certain way” (inspired by Wallace D. Wattles).  He teaches teamwork and the concept of doing little things in a great way, everyday.  He is another mentor to Bob who has learned much from Doc.

Mary Marine

Meet Mart

A young marine biologist, in her 20s, who also works as the hostess at the Inn Up on High.  She is sometimes dressed for her ocean duties and sometimes for her work at the Inn, but her true passion is marine biology and ocean preservation.  She is also good friends with Doc who she met when she was a student at The Island School.  In Volumes Four (Attitude) and Five (Persistence), she tests and then hires Bob to be her assistant marine biologist (and Xena too).

Tom

Meet Tom

A huge blue whale that Bob has to tag and track to get hired by Mary Marine. Tom represents serenity and lives in the eternal calm of the deep ocean waters (inspired by Thomas Troward, 19th century philosopher).  Doc has studied Tom and his contemporaries for secrets to a peaceful, harmonious life.
